We were at the
Great Dorset Chilli Festival recently and what better way to blend in than with a little hot number. We made The Cream Reaper Ice Cream for ‘fun’ for this event. Did you go to the festival, and did you dare to try it?!
Ben most certainly didn’t take the challenge lightly when deciding on and making this ice cream, and went for the Smokin’ Ed’s Carolina Reaper chilli peppers which have a rating of 1,641,300 SHU
(approximately 500x the strength of Tabasco sauce). And to give it plenty of flavour and strength, he used a few bottles of Puckerbutt Pepper Co’s hot sauce from
Some Like It Hot. And yes, he succeeded!
There were clear written explanations and warnings on the van at the Festival regarding the heat of this ice cream, and we were offering this in tiny cones for a ‘taster’, but to our surprise many wanted it as a full scoop! Believe it or not, the reaction was it was ‘rather’ hot (I cannot say exactly what was said by many).
We received a message and picture from Steve on the van – ‘Alex is the first victim of the cream reaper, credit to him, he had an ENTIRE scoop! Well done Alex.’
We were also tagged in an Instagram post from one of our customers – “You might want to go careful,” said the man with the ice cream scoop, “The Cream Reaper is a bit sinister”. He wasn’t kidding.
